Meet the Team
Licensed Lay Minister
David started serving the benefice as a lay minister at the beginning of July this year. He is due to be ordained as a deacon on September 27th, at which point he will become the benefice’s curate. David is a self-supporting minister having taken early retirement from a career in software development, latterly as a Business Analyst.
He has many years of experience of leading worship and music groups in the Church of England and previously in the United Reformed Church, as well holding leadership roles in both churches. As training for his current role, he has recently completed a Certificate in Theology with the Eastern Region Ministry Course.
David’s interests include gardening, walking, running, cycling, and playing various musical instruments.
ALM Worship Leading
My role within the Benefice is primarily working with children and families in Fowlmere, where I lead Family Worship once a month at St Mary’s. I also lead Children’s Church on Sunday mornings and co-ordinate the team of helpers who run Messy Church on the first Wednesday of each month.
ALM Pastoral Care
As a Pastoral Assistant, I see my role as visiting in their homes or in hospital the elderly, unwell and bereaved of the Benefice. I can bring them friendship, a listening ear and prayer and Holy Communion as appropriate. I am now taking Holy Communion on a Sunday to Addenbrookes Hospital once a month.
My administrative role is across the benefice. During training, I was told that a good administrator just gets things done! My list of roles is potentially endless, and I am very happy for my work to be relatively unnoticed because I aim to support the rest of the work of the churches in our benefice to do what is needed.
My role is to help co-lead St Mary’s Choir and support Iverna in her role as music Director. It is also to take God’s gifts of music and words using it to enable the congregation to have a better spiritual journey through a service. Music helps to shape and create different moods within worship finally sending out the People of God to witness in the wider community.
Prayer Ministry Team
Prayer Ministry – healing and Wholeness
Prayer Ministry has been an important part of worship at St Mary’s, Fowlmere for some time. Now we are developing this within the bigger context of Healing and Wholeness. Healing Ministry through the Laying on of Hands, Prayer and Anointing is offered regularly in our eucharists across the benefice during the year.
Out team of Prayer Minister is growing. Each Prayer Minister is commissioned and their ministry affirmed. An annual Commissioning/Re-Commissioning service is planned.
